How do you define yourself?

The way we define ourselves can either liberate us or limit us.

In a world that constantly encourages us to label and categorize ourselves, we have to be aware of the limitations these definitions can impose.

While self-identification can provide a sense of belonging and help us understand ourselves, we are not one-dimensional, static beings confined to rigid definitions.

By defining ourselves too narrowly, we risk limiting our growth and denying ourselves change. We risk not learning who we could become.

If we allow it, our identities can be ever-evolving and multi-faceted, shaped by our experiences, aspirations, and interests.

Embracing the fluidity of our identities allows us to explore new possibilities, discover hidden talents, and break free from rigid boundaries.

For self-reflection exercise:

  • Notice the ways in which you define yourself by past experiences.

  • Notice the ways in which you define yourself that might be holding you back or preventing change.

  • What would it feel like to hold that identity loosely?

Let yourself be open to new experiences, ideas, and perspectives that challenge your existing definitions.
