The Gift of Befriending Yourself


It's the first day of the new year.

A great time to decide what you'd like to leave behind and what you'd like to create more of. Here is my suggestion.

​Leave behind the heaviness of self-judgment, doubt, and pressure. You deserve more from yourself. 

​Give yourself the gift of compassion, self-forgiveness, and a fresh beginning.

​Give yourself the gift of being your own friend. That will change your life. 
 
You can start by:

  • curiously attending to your experiences

  • trying to understand your reactions

  • gently asking yourself “why do you do that?” and “what would you like to be doing instead?”

  • encouraging yourself verbally, like you would someone you care about

  • talking yourself up when about to do something uncomfortable

  • noticing when you're not speaking your truth and ask "what am I scared of?

  • practicing self-forgiveness ... trust that you did what you thought was best at the time

  • letting go of resentment towards others

  • encouraging yourself to do the things you're avoiding
